Outdoor Athlete
I am primarily a plus size climber and skier, but I love all outdoor sports. I paddleboard and mountaineer, I've thru hiked the Camino de Santiago, and I love surfing and biking and really anything I try. I love trying new things and I especially love being a fat body publicly and visibly doing outdoor sports that historically only show thin "athletic looking" people participating. Representation is critically important - in order to believe you belong in a space it really helps to see other people that look like you in that space. I'm passionate about increasing diversity in the outdoors and part of that is increasing the visibility of underrepresented folks like me.
Certified SPIIn November 2019 I participated in the Women's Affinity Single Pitch Instructor course with the American Mountain Guides Association in partnership Brown Girls Climb and Flash Foxy. In September 2021 I passed the SPI exam and became a certified Single Pitch Instructor. Since then I've worked with many different organizations, including She Moves Mountains, Never Stop Moving, and Flash Foxy to provide engaging instruction and climbing experiences to all kinds of climbers all over the US.
I love teaching people to climb and sharing my love of the sport with others - want a plus size guide? Hire me! |
Climb BigClimb Big is a project I've worked on with my friends Sam Ortiz and Megan Banker. Our mission is to make safe spaces for plus size people to try climbing and thrive at a sport that historically has felt extremely exclusive to bigger bodies.
We host meetups and collect and share resources to help other plus size folks get into climbing. Check out our website, join our Facebook group, or follow us on Instagram! |
